Workshop

First Workshop was held in FUGA Budapest Center of Architecture on 23 January 2016.

About a dozen people took part in the event.

See Regina Molnar's review of the workshop:

"It started for me about a half a year ago when I was introduced to the aquarelle technique. I was mesmerized by the translucent, light quality of the finished painting. In the past few months I have thoroughly experimented with the material though for some reason I could not reach the harmonious effect I was aiming at. I felt the need of some guidance. That was when I saw László Zsóka's paintings and the balanced poetry of colors and themes carried me away. So it was no question of joining in his first workshop at FUGA! I did hope to catch some of the magic emanating from his work! Excitedly and curiously prepared for the big day. At Fuga I was surprised at the interest raised in such a wide circle of amateur artists as we were greeted by László. We were given a short introduction to the basics of aquarelle. What made the biggest impression on me right at the beginning was his words of advice and encouragement of not to faint into despair during the process of working with the medium. Maybe it is all in his youth and boldness that comes through his teaching but that was the initiation I looked for. I realized I found my teacher. He pushed us not to shy away from the free flowing marriage of water and pigment since that will bring forth the uniqueness of aquarelle. The beauty of watercolor lies within its properties containing characteristics not found in other painting medium such as colors so transparent they visually appear to glow while others deposit sediment into the hills and valleys of the paper. He showed us how to balance foresight with fortitude so not to "liquidate" or rather massacre the freshness and energies of radiating from the picture. He walked us trough different techniques that can give the artwork depth and visual interest. László pre- draw and painted all phases and explained the whats, hows and whys - including all the tools he had been using in the process- as we followed up. He walked around pointing out successful phases and suggesting solutions to overcome the considerate challenge we faced as the our painting developed. Using a range of values from very light to rich colors we learned about washes and layering. Created textures and tone graduations, formed shapes and then of course had the chance to learn to correct tonal values or reduce excessive color contrast...We made two paintings during the workshop. The rewards of this challenging and somewhat unpredictable medium are great. I can happily say that László's professional insight was an immense benefit to us all! I really appreciate his spirited and direct approach and am looking forward to meeting him at the next workshop!"
